  • Pesticides: Used to control pests in agriculture and other settings, pesticides can release harmful chemicals into the air.
  • Dioxins: These highly toxic compounds are byproducts of industrial processes, particularly those involving combustion.
  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs): These are formed during the incomplete burning of fossil fuels and organic materials, often found in cigarette smoke and diesel exhaust.

  • Advanced treatment technologies: Using advanced technologies like activated carbon adsorption, biofiltration, and catalytic oxidation can remove or break down air toxics before they are released.
  • Source control: Reducing the amount of toxic pollutants entering the treatment process is crucial. This can be achieved through efficient industrial processes, waste minimization, and proper chemical management.
  • Emission monitoring and control: Regular monitoring of air emissions and implementing control measures like scrubbers and baghouses can ensure compliance with air quality regulations and minimize the release of toxic pollutants.
