Ulugh Beigh (more properly Ulugbek)

كان أُلُغ بِيك، حفيد مُغِير المُفترِد تيمُور (تُمرِلَن)، مَشهُورًا بِبُرهَانِه العِلْمِيّ وَمَهَارَتِه الفلكيَّة في القرن الخامس عشر. وُلِدَ في عام 1394، وتَصَدَّى لِتُرَاثِ الغَزواتِ ليَصبحَ فَلَكِيًّا مُحتَفَى بِه، ورِياضِيًّا، ومُشجِّعًا للعِلم. حَيَاتُه، التي انتهت مُبكِّرًا في عام 1449، تركت أثرًا لا يَمُحَى في تاريخ الفَلَكِ والمناظر الفكريّة للعصر الذهبي الإسلامي.

حاكِمٌ بِهَوَسٍ كَوْنِيّ: في حينِ أنَّ جدّهُ كان يُخْرِجُ إمبراطوريَّةً واسعَة، كانت قُلُوب أُلُغ بِيك في السماوات. حَوْلَ عام 1420، أَنشَأَ مرصَدًا فَخِمًا في سمرقند، عُقَدًا نابضًا بالحياةِ بِالتَعَلُّمِ تحتَ حكمِه. أَصبحَ هَذَا المرصد، بِمُقسّمه الرّاسِيّ الشاهقِ القادِرِ على قياسِ المَواضع السماويّة بدقةٍ غيرِ مسبوقةٍ، المركزَ الأوّلَ لبَحْثِ الفَلَكِ في العالَم.
